Beginners seminar - Saturday 6th August
New members and members who have not previously attended a Beginners Seminar are invited to our free introductory seminar on Saturday 6 August 2016.
This seminar is designed to welcome new members to the society and introduce them to some of the committee and other members in an informal and friendly atmosphere. It will be held at Napier Hall, 1 Hide Place, Westminster, London SW1P 4NJ, before our monthly meeting.
Doors open for tea and coffee at 9.30am with the seminar beginning at 10.00am. This year’s seminar will include a general lecture about orchids by our past President, Dr Henry Oakeley. There will then be an introduction to several types of orchid and a repotting demonstration. A hands-on repotting session, with orchids provided, will be led by committee members (the orchids you repot will be available to buy for a few pounds, along with additional orchid compost, feed, books etc.)
A light lunch will then be served at 12.30pm before the monthly meeting commences, with members arriving from 1.30pm. At the monthly meeting, you will have a chance to look through a selection of books from our library, admire members’ orchids on our table show, enjoy more tea and coffee and hear a lecture by Mr Trey Sanders on Australian terrestrials.
If you would like to attend the seminar, please book your place before 30 July (places are limited, so please book asap). Bookings should be made to the Membership Secretary, Mrs Sue Johnson, telephone: 01279 812704 or e-mail: osgbmembership@yahoo.co.uk (please state if you have any special dietary requirements). Members are welcome to bring a guest to the seminar although there is a £10 charge for guests (please book a place for guest as well as yourself). And do bring along any of your own orchids which might need repotting or about which you have specific questions.
